In this short article, the question under discussion is – What are the criteria for evaluating the authenticity of faith that an active Christian should regard as infallible? This question is framed in the context of the distinction between orthodoxy and heresy.
The author believes that in the works of the Fathers of the Church, truth is identified with Jesus Christ: the most genuine criterion of truth is the incarnation of truth. Since Jesus Christ is present and living in the one, holy, universal and apostolic Church, the latter being but the Body of Christ, it is in the Church that we can find the incarnated Christ after the Ascension. It is only there that each believer becomes able to recognize Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. The Church, therefore, is both the criterion and the treasure chest of truth. Conversely, outside the one true Church there exists no genuine and warranted criterion of truth. Still, the question remains how one can recognize the one true Church. To this, the author responds that the criteria for choosing the right answer should be sought in the Holy Tradition.
