    1. The article makes a theoretical overview of problems regarding the knowledge of religion related with the development of the disciplines of philosophy of religion and religious studies. The article discusses contemporary authors who sought ways for improving interreligious dialogue. Bogomilova also looks at the different points of departure to the religious phenomenon of philosophy and theology and comments skeptical positions of various authors regarding the ability of philosophy to understand the nature of religion The article also handles the relationships between reason and belief and between mind and emotions. The author makes parallels between the classical 19^th century philosophical ideas and the contemporary debates on religion, including an overview of the Bulgarian context.
