This study aims to examine the process of ideologisation of modern sciences, and the consequences this process has on the dialogue between theology and science. The author examined the impact of four ideologies that have changed the whole research approach in science in modernity and postmodernity. The four ideologies that were analyzed are: atheism, naturalism, materialism and scientism. All of them have in common the diversion of scientific research and they all lead to open conflict between science and theology. This ideologisation has serious consequences on both the dialogue between science and theology, and on how religion is perceived in the modern and postmodern society. Of the four ideologies, the credibility of theology and religiosity has been seriously affected and therefore the priority of the Orthodox mission is to combat these ideologies and to avoid the syncretism between true science based on research, and ideologies that are by-products of troubled historical periods and that are not related to scientific research.
