    1. Father Symeon de la jara was born in Peru. In 1968 he left Peru and travelled through Europe and Asia for more than two years. He settled in Paris, where he first learned about Orthodoxy by a Greek Orthodox monk whom he met there. He studied hagiography with Leonide Ouspensky and then in 1972 he came to Greece, adhering to the Orthodox faith. In 1973, he joined the monastery of Aghios Georgios in the island of Evia, and in 1974, he was relocated to the monastery of Aghios Grigorios on Mount Athos. Since 1987, he has been living as a hermit.
