This item presents a video recording of the discussion "The question of extraterrestrial intelligence - the Christian view" held on October 31, 2016. The topic was discussed by priest Nikolay Georgiev and Todor Velchev (PhD in astrophysics and active on Christian topics as a founder of “Harta” association) with moderator Plamen Sivov, director of the foundation “Pokrov Bogorodichen” which was a co-organizer of the event. First Plamen Sivov made a lengthy introduction on science developments that impacted discussions on intelligent extraterrestrial life and commented that nowadays the topic seems dominated by interests of cinema producers and the popular mass media. Todor Velchev provided an overview of the chances for existence and contact with extraterrestrial intelligence from the point of his scientific discipline, which in his opinion are very low with our current knowledge, and noted he depicts the topic not only as a scientist but also as a Christian. The main argument of priest Nikolay Georgiev was that the Holy Bible does not give any specific information on other worlds, and at the same time there is no factual evidence so far, so this is not at all a subject on which a believer should focus the attention (although he would not reject the possibility existence of extraterrestrial intelligence). A couple of questions were raised from the public on how believers should respond to those who challenge their views with speculations on the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence.
