    1. The article briefly looks over the Intelligent Design concept with the aim to shed more light on what the central figure in it should be, namely the intelligent Designer. According to the authors, the heated debates around the concept arise because of uncertainties around its character: it is regarded by some as a scientific theory that can be an alternative to the evolutionary theory in biology and by others – as a religious idea which is beyond the sciences.

      The authors commented on what they regard as two versions in the message of the concept. The first one, “the narrow version”, explains the emergence only of the living organisms on the Earth, while the “wider version” includes as well the creation of the entire material world. Having in mind the “wider version”, the article claims that the proponents of the concept deliberately do not focus on the active element, namely the intelligent Designer, on various grounds. One of them is that in such way the concept will be regarded as a religious one, which would not allow its teaching at schools, for example.

      Moreover, the adherents of the concept want to focus the attention on the claim that life has been designed (projected in advance) and is not a result of evolution which has been directed by natural selection. At the same time exactly this refusal to turn to the figure of the intelligent Designer weakens the message of the entire concept, according to the authors. In that way the proponents fail to give answer to questions regarding the goals of the Designer and whether they have been achieved. In addition, in that way the concept fails to answer the question for the genesis of the intelligent Designer. According to the authors, the best way for evading the contradictions in the concept lies to its supporters who agree that the intelligent Designer is God and not a kind of a fictional figure.
