Saint Porphyrios (Bairaktaris) the Kapsokalyvite was a hieromonk known for his spiritual discernment, providence, a gift from God. He was able, through the grace of God, to see the past, the present and the future all at the same time. He confirmed that God is all-knowing and all-powerful.
He was tonsured a monk at the age of fourteen or fifteen with the monastic name Nikitas. He served in the Athonite skete of Kafsokalyvia, in the Cell of St. George, under two spiritual fathers: Fr. Panteimon and Fr. Ionnakios. Despite his young age, he embraced the monastic life with great zeal. He was known for ascetic life, diligence, profound obedience, and devotion to learning (he was self-taught). He also immersed himself in the prayers, services and hymns of the Church, learning them by heart while working with his hands. His sainthood was declared by the synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on November 27, 2013.
