   1. Metropolitan Stefan I was a Bulgarian Orthodox religious leader, metropolitan of the Sofia eparchy and head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in the period 1945 – 1948. A graduate of the Kiev Theological Academy, he also specialised and obtained a doctorate in Switzerland. Metropolitan Stefan is a prolific writer in Christian literature, including a number of works on science-religion relations. In 1934, he published the monograph “Science and Religion”.
