Nicholas Rescher is a professor in philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also served as Chairman of the Philosophy Department. He headed as well the Center for Philosophy of Science at the same institution. Rescher obtained a doctorate with a dissertation in philosophy at the Princeton University. He also served as president of the American Catholic Philosophical Association, and founded a number of journals, including American Philosophical Quarterly and History of Philosophy Quarterly
