The author initially explores and states the atheistic thought of Richard Dawkins, an evolutionary biologist from Oxford. The second part of the paper presents Christian response of Alister McGrath, a theologian from Oxford, to Dawkins’s atheism, as well as McGrath’s attempt to develop “scientific theology” in accordance with the thought of Thomas F. Torrance.
Contrasting and comparing the theses of two eminent scientists from Oxford in an objective manner, the author presents the reader with the main subjects of contemporary debate between atheism and theism in the light of the dialogue between modern science and religion.
The author also provides description of McGrath’s and Torrance’s “scientific theology” or “theological science” in the teachings of Saint Athanasius the Great presenting it as a stimulus for an adequate reflection of relations between theology and natural sciences in the context of contemporary Orthodox theology.
