    1. Vladimir Nikolaevich Shchelkachev was born on November 3, 1907, in the city of Vladikavkaz. In 1926, he graduated from Moscow State University. All his further activities were related to the exploration and development of oil fields in our country and abroad. After a short work in Narkomneft, from 1946 until the end of his life - a teacher at the Moscow State Institute (now University) of oil and gas named after I.M. Gubkin. The scientist created and for a long time headed the department of theoretical mechanics, as well as the laboratory for the study and synthesis of foreign experience in oil production, for some time was the head of the department of oil field development. V.N. Schelkachev is the author of 310 scientific papers. At the turn of the 20s - 30s of the 20th century, he was subjected to repression for his religious beliefs.

       All his life, including the years of persecution of the Church, V.N. Schelkachev was a deeply religious man. He never contrasted religion and science and always saw the close connection of these two manifestations of man’s higher spiritual activity.
