Archimandrite Kasian is a founder and abbot of the Kopilovski monastery, an Old Calendarist Church in Bulagria. The brotherhood is not in communion with the mainstream Bulgarian Orthodox Church but it is affiliated with the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece. Born in the city of Kyustendil in 1951, Kasian has a secular education in geophysics and applied mathematics. After graduating he did not pursue an opportunity to study atomic physics in Moscow, foreseeing in his words the unmanageability and danger to humanity energy from nuclear energy. He subsequently studied theology at Theological Academy in Sofia. Being a monk since 1981, he first took the initiative to restore the deserted monastery in Zhablyano, and later founded the monastery in Kopilovski as a new one, relying mainly on income from own agricultural production.
