    1. With this publication the Plovdiv bishop Nikolay called Orthodox Christians to support efforts of the church to introduce classes on the Eastern Orthodoxy dogma (verouchenie, вероучение) in Bulgarian schools, including taking part in public processions in the Bulgarian capital. Bishop Nikolay stressed that the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has been working to make relgious education a mandatory subject since the beginning of the democratic changes in the 1990s.  However, the state has blocked the reform by arguing that the educational system is a secular one.  Subsequently, many sociological surveys have shown that schools are plagued by various problems such as increasing aggression, drugs, lack of values etc. The secular educational system, being a rationalistic one, has no answer to such problems as it excludes fundamental concepts of Christian ethics. Such a concept is the Christian concept of love, a core thread for human society, which is not present in any of the sciences. The Christian dogma can give an answer to main existential questions. In addition, the religious education can give the meaning that lacks in materialistic and positivistic sciences.
