    1. The article comments on the on-going discussion of how to popularize science in Russia and what hinders it. The author points out that a number of popularizers of science see the influence of religion, and Orthodoxy in particular, as a hostile and dangerous phenomena and a major hindrance to the development of interest in science. This view, according to the author, is due to the misunderstanding of the essence and role of religion.

       The author stresses his great respect for science and its popularization among young generations. He is also a supporter of the fight against pseudoscience and occultism. At the same time, he draws attention to the fact that Christian theism is also ideologically hostile to superstition and that the Church and academic science are in fact natural allies in the struggle against occultism. He reminds the reader that European science was created by Christians – and not just representatives of Christian culture, but deeply religious people, such as Pascal, Kepler, Boyle, Newton and others. He concludes by stating that different non-materialistic world outlooks should not be put into one category: ages-old traditions such as Orthodox Christianity have nothing in common with superstition or occultism.
