    1. The Russian Orthodox Church’s Council for Bioethics fully supports Patriarch Kirill's initiative to extract abortion from the free health care system. It argues that abortion is equivalent to murder, harms women's health and does not save lives: pregnancy is not a disease that can cured by an abortion. The Council addresses the medical community to support the Patriarch’s initiative. The Russian Orthodox Church underlines that it sees the whole situation as absurd: public money is spent on abortions while it could be spent on treatment of ill children. The Council also believes that free abortions make all people pay an “abortion tax”. Thus everyone becomes involved in the realization of abortions without consent: its withdrawal from the national medical insurance plan would lift the responsibility from taxpayers who oppose abortions.
