   1. Nikolai Krokoch (or Mykola Krokosch) was born in the city of Chortkiv, in Ternopil Oblast in Ukraine, on July 21, 1974. From 1995 to 2001 he studied Catholic theology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. In 2004 he presented his doctoral dissertation, at the same university, under the title Ekklesiologie und Palamismus: Der verborgene Stolperstein der katholisch-orthodoxen Ökumene (Ecclesiology and Palamism: The hidden stumbling block of the Catholic-Orthodox Ecumene).
