The book examines the relations between religion, science and philosophy. The author sees religion as a complete worldview and examines its challenges in the present conditions, making an attempt to avoid extremes as clericalism and anti-clericalism which in fact is often pretending to be “scientific” atheism. Science is seen as a continuous road with regularly changing results which deals only with the external experiences, while each discipline examined fractions of the world with no holistic aspirations (in contrast to religion and philosophy). The author elaborates on the thesis that science and religion are different types of knowledge and have different subjects but cooperation between these two spiritual spheres is possible and desirable. The statement that they are not in contradiction is supported with arguments including the religious views of eminent scientists, who at the same time made distinctions between religious values and scientific facts. A thorough analysis is made on the interactions in the 20th century, including elaborations on gnoseology and atheism. The scientism is described as a form of misuse of the religious feelings. The author also paid attention to the “modern” substitutes of religion.
