Vasileios Stathakis, in this paper, discusses one of the most serious human questions, in his opinion, the origins of the world. In the first part of his work, he presents the cosmologies of Ancient Greek philosophers. Then, the writer focuses on the interpretations by the Fathers of the Church, especially on the Homilies on the Hexaemeron by Basil of Caesareia.
As Stathakis wrote, Basil, in his Hexaemeron, selects and accepts some of the ancient concepts, such us some ideas from Aristotle, Plutarch, Aelian, Diogenes Laertius, Diodorus from Sicily or Philon Judaeus, and some others from Christian thinkers, as Ippolytus and Origen. It is worth noting that the Hexaemeron by Basil was the basis for the works by Gregory Theologian, Gregory of Nyssa, such as the works by St Ambroze of Milan and St Augustine.
As a conlusion, Stathakis claims that the the Homilies on the Hexaemeron is a very important work for the orthodox Christianity and the relation between science and religion.
