This paper examines summarily how the current of Greek new orthodox theologians interpret the main texts by ancient Greek philosophy. Using as case study works by Christos Giannaras and Stelios Ramfos, Stelios Virvidakis presents the main conceptions about a lot of Greek ancient philosophers, from Pre-Socratic period to Plotinus. Stelios Virvidakis’s criticism focuses on the following points: the inadequate documentation, on one hand, and the selective use of works, mainly the Platonic and Aristotelian, on the other. Moreover, a serious problem, according Virvidakis, is that the Greek new orthodox theologians analyze the Byzantine mystic writers by a Ηeideggerian point of view. Continuing his criticism, Virvidakis writes that the main question is whether this Hellenocentric conception is compatible with the Orthodox ecumenism. Furthermore, as Virvidakis says, the new orthodox theologians, although accusing the Western essentialism, αdopt a transcendent concept of the essence of "Hellenism". Finally, the way of adoption of classical philosophy reveals arbitrariness and irrationality, as well as the deadlocks of their ethnocentric visions.
