   1. Archimandrite Seraphim has a theological education from the Sofia Seminary and the theological faculty of Bern, Switzerland. In 1940 he became a monk. Archimandrite Seraphim also taught at the Sofia and Plovdiv seminaries and at the Sofia University in the 1960s as a professor of dogmatic theology. Because of disagreement with the calendar reform in Bulgaria and the cooperation with the World Council of Churches (WCC) archimandrite Seraphim quitted his teaching activities and retreated to a monastery at the outskirts of Sofia.
