This study forms an attempt to portray some cosmological positions of St. Basil the Great, using as a starting point his commentary in the biblical Hexaemeron. The byzantine thinker, clearly moving towards the direction of a consistent ontological monism, presents a natural universe which is evolutionary formed on the basis of the divine sponsorships which are both constructive and decorative. He abides by the rules of the analytical approach of the subjects, which in continuation he projects via the formation of synthetic judgments, theoretical generalizations and interpretative suppositions. He sets aside the mechanistic paradigm with respect to the creation of the natural world, while he also excludes the existence of evil and of predestination (fate) from its function. It is of particular research interest, that he does not approach matter in unambiguous terms, but rather as an ontological area in which elements and qualities function. These are cosmological factors connected between them with specified according to each case ways, and compose a world of infinite varieties St. Basil the Great abides by the strict rules of research. He also connects in a clear- headed way the research and theological approaches, and utilizes the relevant philosophical material from Platonism, Aristotelism and Stoicism.
