   1. Nikolay became metropolitan bishop of Plovdiv in 2007, becoming one of the youngest Bulgarian bishops. He is a graduate of the Theological Faculty of the Sofia University and the Moscow Theological Academy. Nikolay became a monk in 1990. Some of his zealous statements spurred heated debates and gained him a reputation of representative of more radical Orthodox currents.
