    1. The author discusses the challenges and opportunities of introduction of a new subject "The Basics of Orthodox Culture" to Russian state school system.

"It is important to find a level of conversation reasonable and acceptable for all: the children from Orthodox families and the children from of Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist families... This is a conversation in the language of cultural studies." While designating all the "components" of a good tutorial, dean Andrey Kuraev keeps clear differentiation between religious and cultural education. The tutorial should not have religious edification, says Kuraev, neither criticism of living religions. The textbook has to speak about the soul, its faith and philosophy, not only of material artifacts; it should be interesting both for teachers and children and it has to show the way Orthodoxy is related to the modern life problems of everyone.

The book not only reveals all the current problems of possible teaching Orthodoxy in Russian schools, but also offers a program of action: "... Let's establish several experimental schools, announce textbooks’ contest, open a new specialty in pedagogical institutions, prepare new teachers and retrain older ones. And only after 5-6 years of this experience of errors and successes we will be able to enter schools and meet children."
