    1. Metropolitan of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki Nikolaos Hatzinikolaou responses to a number of questions concerning the religious approach of the theory of Evolution, of the Big Bang and the beginning of the world, as well as of bioethical problems related to death and embryonic. He insists on the possible useful cooperation of science and religion, placing the spiritual value and uniqueness of the human person –created in God’s own image and in likeness to Him– in the centre of his interest.

According to the interviewee, the greatness of the created world acts as a springboard that further enhances the scientific inquiry, while at the same time it leads to the awareness of the limits of human Knowledge. He also emphasizes on the necessity of being cautious about the way of using technological applications, provided by science, in order to protect human freedom.

Even though his approach on science is positive, the interviewee states that a number of notions as Infinitude, Eternity and Perfection, situated on the borderline between natural and supernatural, escapes from the explanatory model of the scientific discourse. These notions, exceeding the boundaries of natural world and of demonstrative reason, can be better apprehended through theology and the life of the Church. In this sense, spiritual life, without excluding scientific knowledge, deepens the understanding of being in the world and gives priority to the respect of human person and Nature.
