    1. Apostolos Bourbelis was born in 1959 in Hierapetra of Crete. In 1982, he graduated from the School of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1987, he received his master's degree in the domain of Ecclesiastical Literature. In 1994 he was awarded a doctoral degree in theology, from the School of Pastoral Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His doctoral dissertation was titled The status of women in the Church according to John Chrysostom. In 2007 he became associate professor, and in 2012 he was promoted to full professor, of Patristics and Interpretation of Patristic Texts, at the University Ecclesiastical Academy of Crete. He has published numerous books and articles in scholarly journals on topics related to Orthodox theology.
